DU to form panel for 2018 admissions
NEW DELHI: The Delhi University will constitute a committee by the end of this month to formulate policies for the next year’s admission of around 56,000 undergraduate seats in its colleges.
The committee will include college principals, university officials, teacher representatives, members of academic and executive council, a top DU official said.
The committee is appointed by the vice-chancellor to recommend a set of rules for admissions, which are later approved by the academic council.
“By the end of this month, an admission committee will be constituted. The committee will look at the suggestions received from students, parents and other stakeholders. If there are suggestions that could make the process student friendly then it would be taken into consideration,” the official said.
The university has 63 colleges that offer 56,000 seats in undergraduate courses.
Last year, vice-chancellor Yogesh Tyagi had appointed a 24-member admission committee that had suggested starting entrance test for Bcom (Hons) and Bcom courses but the same could not be started last year.
Recently, the university said it will soon be launching a postgraduate diploma course in cyber security and law, to train professionals with practical handling of the area.
The university said it has received approval from the statutory bodies to start the course. “This program caters to the niche domain of cyber security with a unique combination of cyber laws,” said registrar Tarun Das.
