NEW DELHI: A woman bound for Mumbai missed her flight after Air India gave her the boarding pass of a male passenger flying to Surat. She had requested for a duplicate boarding pass after she lost the original one.

The woman had apparently been issued the boarding pass of a male passenger, flying with Air India to Surat, who had also lost his boarding pass.

“The woman was travelling to Mumbai by AI 624 of December 3. She told the security staff that she has lost her boarding pass. Since, reverse entry is not allowed, airline staff were informed through a wireless message. The airline issued her a boarding pass, but when she reached the boarding gate, she was told that the boarding pass was of a flight bound for Surat,” said an airline official.

The male passenger was travelling to Surat by AI 489 and both the flights had the same departure time — 7.05pm. The Suratbound passenger had also lost his boarding pass after the security check and had requested for a duplicate one.

“Due to the confusion, the woman bound for Mumbai got the boarding pass for Surat, while male passenger was told that duplicate boarding pass has already been issued on his name. Soon, Air India realised the mistake and collected the boarding pass from the woman and handed it to the passenger bound for Surat. He managed to depart, but the woman missed her flight,” the airline source added.

Air India spokesperson did not comment on the matter.

The woman then flew to Mumbai by booking another ticket with Air Vistara and did not make any complaint.
