NEW DELHI: A young woman was allegedly molested by two bikers when she and her friend were waiting for a cab outside a luxury hotel in New Delhi last week.

The two women fought back and ensured one of the men was arrested. The crime was reported on December 14 night outside Shangri La hotel, deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi) BK Singh said. The second suspect is absconding

The two women are from UP and West Bengal.

Singh said the two friends had left the hotel and were standing outside the gate when two bikers drove by and made some lewd remarks.

“The complainant objected and an argument followed. According to her complaint, the duo then molested her,” said another police officer.

The woman and her friend then took on the suspects. “A policeman on a bike was passing by when the scuffle between the men and the women was on. Seeing him, the person driving the bike fled, leaving his accomplice behind who was arrested,” said Singh.

Only the complainant has been named as a victim as she was the one who was molested. The police refused to share other details.

“We registered a case under Sections 354 (molestation) and 509 (outraging the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code. The second accused has been identified and we are trying to track him down,” said Singh.
