NEW DELHI: The walls of a toilet inside the women’s lock-up at the Saket police station are so low that anyone using it can be seen from outside, a city councillor has said.

Councillor Ved Pal, who filed a complaint at the local DCP’S office, told Hindustan Times that he had gone to the police station last week for a district police committee meeting when he saw the toilet. He has asked the DCP to increase the height of the wall.

A lock-up is a small enclosure inside the police station separated by grilles. Anyone in custody is first put in a lock-up until he or she is produced in court and is either granted bail or sent to judicial custody (jail).

Sharma, councillor from Aya Nagar, said though there were no women inside the lock-up, the toilet was visible. “The height of the toilet wall was only around two feet. The upper body of a woman will be visible from outside when she uses the washroom. This is against human rights. Anyone can click photographs while they are using the washroom,” reads his complaint.

DCP South Romil Baaniya confirmed receiving the complaint. “We have received a complaint. We are checking the building design to check if there is any anomaly.”
