The following are some of the points which need to be kept in mind in order to ensure that technology does not become a source of stress for you, and to ensure that you are able to give yourself a breather in a technology free zone:

While it’s good to embrace technology and use it to your advantage, always be sure to maintain a balance. Often our dependence on technology to be connected on various social platforms and to be in touch with people across the globe leads us to forget the true meaning and value of social relationships.

People often tend to get obsessive about technology, and in the midst of their technological overdependence, may lose cognizance of other aspects of their lives. This is commonly seen across a cross section of the society, as our personal, social as well as professional demands also require us to be dependent on many of these technological media. As a simple instance, we would much rather rely on the calculator than mentally compute even simple arithmetic. And memorising phone numbers is almost an impasse!

As a family, you could allot certain technology free zones, which are applicable not just to the children but to all members of the household. For example, meal times could be set aside as time for the family to sit together, and all technological devices need to be put away during this time zone.

You can use technology to help you with your work, maintain connectivity and keep yourself updated with the latest in the world. At the same time, you can use technology to kill time, view distasteful content or impinge on someone else’s personal space. there is no end to the kind of gadgets and applications that exist today, or to the amount of money that you can spend on them. Be clear about what you need to your device for and opt for something that suits your budget and practical requirements. We need to remember not to become an extremist and not to shun all forms of digital technology completely. Rather, utilise them to add on to your productivity, while also ensuring that you strike a balance.
