GHAZIABAD: A Class 10 girl who had allegedly been shot by a 17-yearold boy on Wednesday evening, succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in Noida on Friday.

During the shooting incident at Sector-4 in Ghaziabad’s Vasundhara locality, the girl had suffered brain damage after the bullet had pierced her skull.

According to sources, a bullet was recovered during the postmortem and it had caused considerable and irreparable damage to her brain. The girl had been admitted at Atlanta hospital in Vasundhra after the incident.

After shooting the girl, the boy reportedly shot himself in a bid to commit suicide and suffered a bullet injury to head. The boy was operated upon and is now in the ICU of a hospital in Kaushambi.

Police said the boy and the girl used to study at the same tuition centre in Ghaziabad. The girl had been shot from close range allegedly with a revolver which the accused boy had brought from his house. The gun was licensed in the name of the boy’s father, officials said.

“Her brain had suffered considerable damage and since it was a grievous injury, she could not be operated upon. We consulted a number of specialists, but they dismissed any hope of her revival,” the girl’s uncle said. “We still don’t know why the boy attacked her,” he added.

The girl’s family, however, maintained that the boy was above 18 years of age and they are looking into if he can be tried as major for the alleged crime.

Police said that the boy was born on December 17, 2001. “In case the victim family wants him to be tried as major, they will have to approach court,” said SC Dubey, SHO, Indirapuram.

According to initial investigation, police said that the boy and girl were on friendly terms and it appeared that they had some altercation before the shooting. Officials said that it appears that the boy had planned the incident as he brought his father’s revolver with him.
