NEWDELHI: A section of Delhi University teachers have claimed that there is no course outline and syllabus for Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) in Economics that is to be taught to sixth semester students of BA (Programme).

However, Delhi School of Economics (DSE), which oversees the designing of syllabus for economics papers, said it was conveyed to the teachers a year ago that they should design the syllabus for fifth and sixth semester but it was never done.

Subhash Singh Prasad, teacher incharge of Economics at Sri Aurobindo College, said that he has written to the DSE seeking clarification on this issue.

“…the Skill Enhancement Paper for the students of sixth semester, BA (Programme) Economics has not been specified and there is no clear course outline. The department is responsible for making the course so that colleges can teach it,” he said.

He said that he has asked the department to clarify about the course outline that has to be covered for the same as the semester has begun and there is still a lot of confusion for the same.

DSE head Aditya Bhattcharjea, however, said the department designs syllabus for core economics papers and SECS papers are designed by college teachers after which they are approved by the department.

“But teachers could only design SEC for fifth semester and there was no syllabus made for the sixth semester. The syllabus, as it is right now, has been approved by all statutory bodies with no objections from any teachers at that time,” he said.

Prasad maintained that students doing economics as their core paper in BA (programme) need to take SECS in economics, some teachers said students can take the paper from other subjects as per Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).
