L-G takes stock of preparations for ASEAN summit
NEWDELHI: Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Saturday took stock of preparations for the ASEAN summit and inspected areas around Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid and Red Fort.
Giving a slew of directions, Baijal asked agencies to remove encroachments around the historic Red Fort. He also directed them to beautify the area and repair roads around the Fort.
The L-G gave a deadline of January 15 to the agencies including the Public Works Department, Delhi Police and the three municipal corporations, especially North MCD, to complete the work.
The ASEAN summit is scheduled to take place between January 19 and 30 in the national capital.
Baijal also directed agencies to deal with the issue of parking at identified places on a war footing. “The L-G said that all the civic agencies must take special care of the heritage places in their jurisdiction as they will be a centre of attraction for the international guests arriving from different countries for the summit,” a statement from the L-G office said.
According to the statement, the L-G further said that the work of cleanliness and beautification of public places should be a priority for all the civic agencies and it calls for consistent attention.
The L-G has also directed civic agencies to work in tandem with market associations of these areas to install proper signboards.
