PREVENTION OF DRUGS ABUSE
A sensitisation event on drugs abuse prevention was held at Bharti Public School (BPS), Swasthya Vihar. The event, which was organised by the National Institute of Social Defence, ministry of social justice and empowerment, in collaboration with Boon Foundation, attended by 400 students from Classes 9 to 12 along with 19 teachers. The mayor of EDMC, Neema Bhagat was the chief guest, along with Anand Katoch, director NISD, Manoj Hatoj, assistant, director NCDAP under the ministry of social justice and empowerment. The event begun with lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries along with HCB Bharti, the chairman and Rajesh Batra, the director of the school. Principal Savita Arora welcomed the guests and called upon the students to act sensibly and refrain from any form of addiction, be it drugs or mobile, which provide fleeting happiness and lingering sorrow. Arijit Roy and the artists of NISD presented a pantomime on the ill effects of drug abuse. Thereafter, the winners of the poster-slogan writing competition were felicitated by the mayor. A poster by Manvi of Class 11 has been selected to be printed in the 2019 calendar of the ministry of social justice and empowerment. Speaking on the theme of drug abuse, the mayor appreciated the efforts of BPS for joining hands with NISD in sensitising the students’ community against drug abuse. She was moved by the soulful lyrics of the choir group — Sangram Zindagi Hai — and the entire auditorium reverberated with fervour. A short film on the theme Say No to Drugs was also screened. Conducting an interactive session, Dr Deepak Yadav from AIIMS said on the occasion that drugs are addictive substances which change the perception, mood, thinking process and behaviour of the person/s consuming them.
