NEW DELHI: The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has widened its net to collect conversion charges from traders running commercial establishment from narrow lanes.

Till now, the civic body was targeting violators in designated shopping centres and major markets only.

“But it has been observed that a majority of traders running commercial establishments on notified pedestrian streets have not paid the conversion charges since 2006. The building department is conducting a survey and simultaneously issue notices to the defaulters,” said senior North corporation official.

In the last four days, the agency has served notices to more than 500 shopkeepers in Roshanpura, Ajmeri Gate, Lajpat Rai Market, who have not paid the charges. They have been asked to make the payment in three days, or face action, said an official. NEW DELHI: Around 20 days after burglars broke into a co-operative bank in outer Delhi’s Mundka and stole cash and jewellery worth ₹30 lakh, three accused were arrested, police said on Tuesday. At least nine suspects are still absconding.

Those arrested were identified as Raj Kumar Joshi (41), Vikas Thapa (29), and Ramesh (30). The arrests were made over the past week. Police have recov- ered melted gold worth ₹1.86 lakh, gold jewellery worth ₹3 lakh, silver coins, and the equipment used for the break-in.

M N Tiwari, DCP (outer), said Joshi, a watchman, was the first to be arrested and that his interrogation led to the arrest of the other two. Police have been raiding possible hideouts in Delhi, West Bengal, Mumbai, and areas bordering Nepal to find the remaining culprits.
