No mental fitness test for Trump: WH

-

WASHINGTON: The White House has said President Donald Trump will not undergo a psychiatric exam as part of his upcoming routine fitness test as questions continued to be asked about the state of his mental health, triggered by a tell-all book that has overshadowed the administration in the new year.

Trump himself stoked it by claiming in tweets and remarks he was very smart and a “very stable genius” who went to one of the best colleges, made billions as a businessman and won the presidency the first time he ran, unlike, say his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton.

Asked if a psychiatric exam will be part of his physical — at the Walter Reed Military Medical Center — just outside DC on Friday, deputy press secretary Hogan Gidely told reporters, “I’m not going to speak to the -but, no.”

Questions about Trump’s mental pre-date the book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, and had been raised even by members of his own Republican party. Senator Bob Corker once called the White House an “adult day-care centre”, with aides and officials tasked with minding Trump.

MUELLER PROBE WANTS TO INTERVIEW TRUMP

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s team of investigators has expressed interest in speaking with Trump as its investigation into potential coordination between Russia and the president’s election campaign looks set to reach right into the Oval Office, it emerged on Monday.

No details are set at this stage, including a date for any possible interview, the scope of questions or even whether an interview will take place, a person familiar with the matter told the Associated Press on condition of anonymity. Trump has insisted there was “no collusion” between his campaign team and Russia.
