Sanchez, Mkhitaryan set for medicals ahead of swap deal

LONDON: Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez and Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan were to undergo medicals on Sunday as their swap deal neared completion, reports said.

Britain’s Mirror newspaper said Sanchez was due to arrive in Manchester with agent Fernando Felicevich, with a medical scheduled for Sunday afternoon, while Sky reported that Mkhitaryan would have a medical in London.

The Mirror said the deals may not be officially completed until Monday as both Sanchez and Mkhitaryan are non-eu players and must have their work permits ratified by their new clubs.

Chile’s Sanchez, 29, is set to become United’s best-paid player, with some reports putting his salary at £400,000 per week.

WATFORD SACK MANAGER MARCO SILVA

LONDON: Watford announced on Sunday they had sacked manager Marco Silva, blaming an “unwarrante­d approach by a Premier League rival” for a downturn in results.

“The club is convinced the appointmen­t of Silva was the right one and had it not been for the unwarrante­d approach by a Premier League rival for his services we would have continued to prosper under his leadership,” Watford said in a statement.

MCCARTHY SUFFERS BROKEN LEG

LIVERPOOL: Everton manager Sam Allardyce has confirmed James Mccarthy suffered a double leg break in the 1-1 draw with West Brom at Goodison Park.

Mccarthy suffered the as he was attempting to block Salomon Rondon’s shot inside the penalty area, with the forward kicking his standing leg .

Speaking after the game, Allardyce said: “James has fractured his tibia and fibula. He’s paid a heavy price for his bravery and commitment. It’s a big blow for him and us.
