‘My idea of fun is being at home, reading a book’

-

Everybody has their own idea of fun. Some prefer the outdoors — from taking a walk, to river rafting, to breathing in a little fresh air — away from the stuffy atmosphere of the four walls.

People go out to escape the clutches of boredom. But I am a recluse, I love to stay indoors — in a room with the door shut.

My idea of fun is being at home alone, sitting in the corner of my room, with my two favorite things a novel and a large mug of steaming hot coffee.

Although, it may not sound enjoyable to most, I find the experience gratifying.

The invigorating aroma of coffee, its rich bitter taste in my mouth; the crispy sound and refreshing smell of a freshly printed book wafting towards me are enough to make my day.

And when I turn the coarse pages of the book, the silence of the room is only broken by me. I also say out loud my opinions and reactions to the events in the story. Usually, I do not speak with anybody, but saying things out loud gives me an inexplicable sense of satisfaction.

This quiet, alone time does not seem to have any blood-pumping excitement… or does it?

Being a die-hard fan of science fiction, adventure, crime and horror, the vivid description of the scenes are enough to get my heart rate up.

Not everyone needs to go outside to get excited. After all, it is just a state of mind.

Everybody has their own idea of fun. Be it outdoors, or indoors, if the activity can bring a smile to your face, it’s an activity to be cherished, and it’s memories are to be treasured. ISHITA RAO Class 10, Tagore International School, Vasant Vihar
