paying attention to the security aspect, it would also help parents track the activities of their children in school.”

Other students as well as elders, however, emphasised the need for the government to implement the programme effectively as CCTV cameras already installed in many schools are insufficient and many of these equipment are non-functional. If this initiative is not managed well, it will only add to the problem rather than help in resolving it.”

Trisha Sharma, a Class 6 student of Bal Mandir Senior Secondary School, Defence Enclave, informed that “Each parent will be given a unique ID number to log into a government mobile app on school security. At this forum, parents can log in and access live footage from classroom. It will be another step towards promoting transparency in the system and making it safer for children.”

“From the point of view of the safety of students, who are at the highest risk, this is a good move,” said Kavita VAISHNAVI SHARMA, Class 5, Vandana International School, Dwarka Shar ma, a Class 9 student of Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, East of Loni Road.

A cross-section of the parents said that the move was welltimed as they live in constant fear and stress due to the sharp rise in violence ag ainst GenNext, frequent cases of students picking up fights against one another and of road mishaps involving school vans.

“It is high time that school authorities take urgent steps to ensure the safety of students within the school premises. Therefore it’s my request to schools to keep updating about their ward’s activities regularly. Besides this, educational institutions must also pay attention to implementing a stringent hiring policy, especially for the support staff. Proper verification of drivers and conductors is a must,” says Vaishnavi’s father Rajesh Kumar Sharma.
