-

NEW DELHI: An employee of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in central Delhi’s Rajendra Nagar allegedly jumped to his death from the fifth floor of the hospital building on Monday evening. Police have prima facie ruled out foul play.

The deceased has been identified as Inder Singh who was working in the hospital as a bearer for the past many years, said deputy commissioner of police (central) MS Randhawa.

According to the police, a call was received from the hospital around 4pm that an employee had tried to commit suicide. When a police team reached there, they found that the injured person had been taken for treatment inside the hospital but was declared brought dead.

Randhawa said while no suicide note was found from the spot, eyewitnesses said that he had jumped on his own. “No CCTV footage was found but we are try- ing to find if it is available. The body was moved to Lok Nayak Jayprakash Narayan Hospital for post-mortem. It will be conducted on Tuesday,” said Randhawa.

Preliminary probe also revealed that Singh was depressed as he was under a lot of debt. His family members will be questioned, the police added.

“Singh, employed as Bearer in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, today evening around 4 pm fell from 5th Floor of the hospital. He expired subsequently. The matter is under investigation by police,” read the hospital statement.
