School uniforms instill a sense of equality in children

-

Right to Equality is our Fundamental Right guaranteed by the Constitution of India. Every citizen’s utopian vision of a nation is parity at all levels.

Education is one of the best sources for inculcating equality in children. And the schools play an active part in channelising these values. The schools promote the value of equality in many ways — one such way is through uniforms.

Though it has been often argued whether schools should have uniforms or not, a common dress code ensures that all children are seen and treated equally. It gives students a sense of belonging and identity.

In our diverse and challenging society, it is important to instill these positive values in our young generation. Having one common dress eliminates the difference of economic status, or creed and helps in creation of an equal society.

It makes the children learn that we all are equal.

Students do not have to worry about what to wear or whether their clothes are cool. All they have to concentrate on is how to do well in class.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru once said, “The children of today will make the India of tomorrow.”

If the young minds learn the lesson of equality today, they will implement the same tomorrow.
