NEWDELHI: The Delhi government on Monday questioned the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) claims of recovering property documents and bank deposits linked to minister Satyendar Jain.

The government said that Jain has never met Delhi Dental Council Registrar Rishiraj.

They alleged that the CBI’S claims were “lies” as the property documents and bank deposits were already in possession of the agency.

Questioning the veracity of the papers, the ruling party alleged that the development was a fresh conspiracy by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “The papers planted by CBI have been twice handed over by Jain himself to the CBI and have been declared many times in his IT returns. What is new in these papers? The Bjp-led central gov- ernment is only trying to malign his image,” a government spokesperson said.

On August 25 last year, the CBI raided health minister Satyendar Jain’s residence during which it seized documents including property papers and cheque books.

However, on Sunday, the CBI claimed that it had recovered documents of properties worth over ₹2 crore allegedly linked to Jain and companies in which he was a director.

The spokesperson said that the CBI should also make it clear as to how the documents showed in its seizure memo of August 25 raid at Jain’s residence, were found at Rishiraj’s premises who was unknown to the minister.

Reacting to the reports, Delhi BJP demanded chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation. “They have done it (corruption) again. It is high time that Arvind Kejriwal and Satyendar Jain (minister) resign taking moral responsibility,” said Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari.

The government has maintained that Jain’s transactions were clean as no cash was involved and all of it were done through cheques with no involvement of any “strange account”.

“So far, the agency has not even approached Jain for questioning,” the spokesperson said.
