Man arrested for allegedly thrashing and molesting neighbour
NEW DELHI: A 27-year-old woman working for a media house was allegedly molested and thrashed by a neighbour in Malviya Nagar when she tried to save a dog, who, she claimed, he was torturing.
The 56-year-old accused is a government employee and lives in the same government staff colony where the incident happened on February 1. He allegedly barged into the woman’s house to “teach her a lesson” and then molested her in presence of her family members, as per the woman’s complaint.
“Around 7.30 pm, when I was going to the market, I heard the cries of a dog. I noticed that the man was brutally hitting a stray dog with a wooden plank. I urged him not to torture the helpless animal. He asked me to keep quiet and even abused me,” claimed the woman, an administration staff in the Delhi office of a regional daily
When she protested against his behaviour, the accused allegedly entered her compound and pushed her out of her house by holding her hair.
“Once we were out, he again assaulted touched me inappropriately and then groped me. He hurled abuses and threatened to kill my family too. He then slapped me,” the woman said.
“It was only after his and my family members intervened, that the assault stopped,” said the woman.
A case of sexual harassment and assault was registered at the Malviya Nagar police station and the accused was arrested, said deputy commissioner of police (south) Romil Baaniya.
