File on notification of 351 roads sent to L-G for approval: CM

NEWDELHI: The Delhi government on Wednesday sent a file pertaining to the notification of 351 roads under the mixed land use and commercial category to lieutenant governor Anil Baijal for approval, a government official said.

The file was sent after the three municipal corporations submitted authenticated survey report on the 351 roads to the urban development department on Wednesday.

“Sending the file pertaining to 351 roads to L-G today (Wednesday), as soon as we received the proposal from MCDS. As soon as L-G’S approval is obtained, it will be presented before the Supreme Court for its approval,” chief minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.

The Delhi government in 2006 had notified around 2,500 roads as commercial or mixed land use but 351 roads were left out for which the government has been blaming the BJP ruled-municipalities, citing “certain deficiencies” on the part of civic bodies.

The move will protect traders, who have commercial set-ups on these roads, from sealing. No shop on these 351 roads has been sealed so far.

Assembly speaker Ram Niwas Goel had referred issues related to the ongoing sealing drive, conversion charges and notification of 351 roads to the Special Committee headed by Aam Aadmi Party MLA Bhavana Gaur and asked it to submit its report on the first day of the next session.

The committee had convened several meetings where MCD commissioners were asked to submit an authenticated survey report on 351 roads. The MCD had said that they were unable to trace the relevant documents since the last survey was done in 2007 and they need time.

Reacting to the development, leader of the opposition Vijender Gupta said that it was made possible by the pressure from the opposition. “The government had been sitting on the file of 351 roads for long. But because of pressure from the opposition, the government had to approve it. The public kept suffering while AAP was playing politics over the issue. The AAP should apologise from the masses,” Gupta tweeted.
