Soon, e-auctions for seized cars
NEWDELHI: If you want a great deal on a used car, here is your chance. From March, the Delhi government’s excise department will start a monthly e-auction of vehicles confiscated for transporting unauthorised liquor.
Officials said around 450 vehicles will be put up for the first round of auction on March 5. The vehicles will include one Mercedes-benz E350D luxury sedan, other than a large number of SUVS, sedans and hatchbacks such as Toyota Innova, Honda CRV and Honda City.
“It is a good opportunity for the stakeholders and for the public as the vehicles vary from twowheelers to high-end cars, some of which otherwise costs around ₹70 lakh in the market. The prices of the vehicles are going to be at least 20-30% less than the on-road price, depending on its condition and age,” said Amjad Tak, commissioner (excise).
Those interested will have to register at www.mstcecommerce.com by paying a one-time non-refundable registration fee of ₹10,000. The excise department has collaborated with PSU MSTC Ltd for the e-auction.
The participant will have to provide her details to get access to the list of confiscated vehicles, officials said. Within seven days of the auction, the participants will be asked for the payment for the vehicle and within 15 days of the payment, the vehicle would be delivered to the bidder. The owner of the confiscated vehicle will also get a chance to bid in the auction, the official added.
The second auction will take place in the first week of April where another 250 vehicles will be going under the hammer. “We have decided that the e-auctioning will now be conducted in the first week of every month. At least 2-3 vehicles are confiscated by the department on a daily basis and these end up at the police station as we do not have land. The Delhi Police has also agreed with the plan,” Tak said.
Earlier, the department had no set procedure of disposing of the vehicles used in bootlegging. Auctions used to take place but were sporadic. The last auction was held in June 2017.
