50-yr-old kills self in Janakpuri station

NEW DELHI: A 50-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving metro train at Janakpuri Metro station of Blue Line in west Delhi on Sunday evening.

Police said the man, identified as Kanwaljeet Singh, was depressed because of his prolonged illness.

A suicide note was found in his pocket.

Delhi Metro police officials said the alleged suicide took place around 5.30 pm when a train bound for Noida City Centre was entering platform number 1.

In the CCTV footage, a Metro police officer said, Singh is seen standing on the platform and waiting for a train.

“As the train approaches, the man suddenly jumped in front of it. Some passengers screamed for help and alerted the Metro security staff. The man was hit by the train and badly injured. He was rescued and immediatel­y rushed to a nearby hospital where he died during treatment,” said the officer.

According to Metro police officials, the i ncident was reported to them at 5.40 pm through a call made to the police control room.

By the time a police team reached the spot, the victim had already been moved to a nearby hospital.

“In the one page suicide note, the man has written that he was suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes for some years,” said Pankaj Singh, deputy commission­er of police (Metro police).

he added that Singh further has written that he was depressed because of his ailments, which was also causing vision loss in his eyes.

The polcie said Singh lived with his family in Tilak Nagar area and ran a hardware shop in Kirti Nagar market.
