Gangster with over 30 cases of murder, dies in police custody

POLICE SAID PAWAN ALIAS HARIYA COMPLAINED OF ILLNESS ON SUNDAY AFTER WHICH POLICE TOOK HIM TO A GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL IN PALWAL AROUND 1.30PM

FARIDABAD: A 28-year-old criminal, with over 30 cases of murder, who was arrested by a Faridabad police a few days ago, died in police custody on Sunday due to a heart attack, police said.

Hariya, the leader of the notorious Hariya gang in Faridabad, was nabbed when he tried to flee on spotting police in Chilla village in east Delhi on the intervenin­g night of February 13 and 14.

Police said Pawan alias Hariya complained of illness on Sunday after which police took him to a government hospital in Palwal around 1.30pm.

Police said after being treated at the hospital, when he was being taken back to the Hassanpur police station, the gangster again complained of uneasiness after which the police team took him back to the hospital.

“We will wait for the postmortem report, but initial reports suggests he died of a heart attack”, superinten­dent of police, Palwal, Salochna Gajraj said, adding that the postmortem report will clearly state the cause of death.

Wanted in over 32 cases of murder, dacoity and loot in NCR, Rajasthan and Haryana, Palwal police had arrested Hariya and brought him to Palwal where he was being interrogat­ed after court remanded him to six days police custody.

Few days before his arrest, in an encounter of Haryana police with Hariya gang, one pf jos gang members, Arun Gurjar died, and Hariya, who carried a reward of ₹1lakh, and two aides fled the spot leaving behind the looted car.

A team of 30 police officers had arrested Hariya from Delhi. He was an accused in the murder of Sant Raj, chairman of the market committee, Palwal. Raj was killed on December 5, 2017.

Once the family members of Hariya, who hails from Bainsrawal­i village in Faridabad district, reach Palwal hospital, his postmortem will be carried out, police officials said.
