Protests near Manesar choke Delhi-jaipur e-way for 3 hrs

GURGAON: Motorists were stuck in massive traffic jams on both sides of the Delhi-jaipur Expressway (NH-48) as a group of protesters blocked the highway for nearly half an hour around noon on Thursday. The protests resulted in commuters taking as much as three hours to cross the affected seven-kilometre stretch near Manesar.

The protesters were demanding action against the doctors of a private hospital in Gurgaon where a 21-year-old MBA student, Deepak Yadav, died on Wednesday. Yadav’s family alleged “medical negligence” in his treatment at the hospital.

Police officials said Yadav was admitted to Paras Hospital in Sushant Lok-1 on February 19 where he was diagnosed to have fluid in his lungs after suffering from typhoid a week ago. He reportedly died soon after the doctors conducted some tests on him on Wednesday, police said. A police complaint has been registered at the Sushant Lok police station in Gurgaon.

At around 12.30pm on Thursday, the relatives of the deceased, along with local residents, staged a protest near Manesar on NH-48. The protesters were also reported to have thrown stones at some buses damaging window panes.

Even t hough t he police diverted traffic near Kherki Daula toll plaza, a 5-km-long traffic jam was witnessed on either side of NH-48 from Manesar to Pachgaon.

The road was opened again after DCP (south) Ashok Bakhsi held parleys with the protesters, who were given assurance that their complaint would be investigat­ed and action would be taken if any negligence is found.
