FARIDABAD: Over three-and-a-half years after Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation for a bridge connecting Faridabad with Greater Noida, work on the project will start soon as the government allotted work to a Panchkula-based construction company, a Haryana Public Works Department official said.

Meanwhile, the Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments on Saturday agreed on the construction of another bridge on the Yamuna in Hassanpur township of Palwal district.

“The work on ₹106-crore bridge connecting Faridabad with Greater-noida in the first phase will start soon as the government has allotted work to SP Singla Construction,” Rahul Singh, executive engineer, PWD of Haryana government said.

The project was sanctioned by ministry of road transport and highways and funds were allocated out of central road fund.

Nitin Gadkari had laid the foundation stone on this project on August 15, 2014 at Manjawali in presence of Faridabad MP Krishenpal Gurjar who was then Union minister of state Road transport and highways.

Gadkari had said that a 19-km stretch of the 24-km road would lie in the territory of Haryana whereas 5-km stretch would be in Uttar Pradesh.

A 670- metre four-lane bridge would also be constructed on river Yamuna under the project. After the completion of this project, commuters travelling from Rajasthan, Gurgaon, Palwal and Faridabad to Noida would not have to enter Delhi area.

The bridge will also connect two NCR towns of Faridabad and Noida — Jasana-cheersi-manjawali in Faridabad, Haryana and Atta Gujran in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

The Haryana government had already approved funds for disbursement among the farmers whose land was to be acquired for the entire project near Manjawali village from Faridabad side.

The total cost of the projet including compensation to farmers is around ₹400, union minister of state for social justice and empowerment Krishan Pal Gurjar had said.
