NEWDELHI: Four men from Punjab and a Nigerian national were arrested with 3.7 kilograms of heroin worth around ₹13 crore in two separate operations against drug peddlers by Delhi Police.

Police said the arrested persons are alleged members of two separate international syndicates involved in sale and supply of narcotic drugs in India.

In the first operation, the special cell arrested Surinder Kumar and Denny Kumar with their associate John Bosco, a Nigerian national, with 2.5 kilograms of heroin worth R10 crore.

The three were arrested between February 19 and 23 from different areas in the city, Pramod Singh Kushwah, deputy commissioner of police (special cell) said.

Kushwah said Surinder and Denny were caught from at Rohtak Road when they were returning to Punjab in an Indica car after receiving a consignment of 2 kilograms of heroin from a Nigerian national living in Dwarka. “The two were interrogated and Bosco was arrested on Friday with 500 grams of the contraband,” said Kushwah.

During interrogation, Kushwah said, Bosco allegedly disclosed that he used to get heroin directly from his compatriots based in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

“Bosco said persons acting as couriers of drugs used to bring heroin in their stomachs by inhaling capsules of the drug. The smuggled heroin is further supplied to drug dealers in Delhi, UP, Punjab, Haryana and even in European and African countries,” Kushwah said.

In the second operation, the northwest district police arrested Hari Chand and Shivsharanjit Singh on Friday with 1.2 kilograms of heroin from Pitampura. The duo was travelling in an Etios car.

Four mobile phones the duo used in their illegal trade were seized from them.

Aslam Khan, deputy commissioner of police (northwest), said the arrested men received heroin from their Nigerian associates living in west Delhi.
