Sealing is like a disease and it will engulf entire city if not stopped on time. Delhi government is doing whatever it can, but the responsibility to stop sealing lies with the Centre ND GUPTA, AAP Rajya Sabha MP

NEW DELHI: The AAP on Monday said that only the Centre can halt the ongoing sealing drive by introducing a bill or an ordinance.aaprajyasabhamember Sanjay Singh brought a private member’s bill on Monday.

“The party believes that necessary amendments in the Delhi Master Plan could resolve the matter once and for all. The sealing can be stopped only by a bill or by an ordinance if Parliament is not in session and this can only be done by the Centre,” the AAP leader said.

Singh urged all political parties to come together to pass the bill to end the sealing of shops and businesses operating from residential premises in the National Capital.

“We have moved a private member’s bill in the Rajya Sabha today (Monday). In the past 5-6 months, over 300 such bills have been introduced but as far as I know only 14 such bills have been passed since Independence,” Singh said at a press conference.

Singh added that the sealing drive caused enormous difficulties for the traders and their families. He alleged that traders were being beaten up in the name of sealing.

The sealing drive had started in mid-december on the directions of the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee with the sealing of major shops and eateries in the Defence Colony market.

Another AAP Rajya Sabha MP, ND Gupta wrote a letter to Union home minister Rajnath Singh on the issue and urged him to take necessary steps to stop sealing in the city.

“Traders are in problem because of sealing drives. This sealing is like a disease and it will engulf entire city if not stopped on time. Delhi government is doing whatever it can, but the entire responsibility to stop sealing lies with the Bjp-ruled Central government,” Gupta said.
