KARTI SENT TO JUDICIAL CUSTODY UNTIL MARCH 24 IN INX MEDIA CASE
NEWDELHI: A special CBI court on Friday sent Karti Chidamabaram, son of former finance minister P Chidambaram, to judicial custody till March 24 in connection with the INX Media corruption case. Karti , who was arrested on February 28 from Chennai airport, was produced before the trial court on the expiry of his police remand.
While CBI today did not press for further custody of Karti, his lawyer’s filed a bail application and also moved the court requesting a separate room and bathroom for Karti in case the judge decides to send the accused to jail.
After hearing both the sides, Karti’s bail application was dismissed by special CBI judge Sunil Rana stating that Karti’s bail plea, that was moved by senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi last week, was scheduled to be heard on March 15.
Karti was then taken to Tihar jail. However, later in the day his lawyers moved the Delhi high court seeking bail. The bench referred the matter for Tuesday.
In the trial court, the CBI said it no longer required Karti’s custody as the accused, throughout his questioning, was “evasive and non-cooperative. It claimed “there is sufficient material clearly implicating the accused”.
