NEWDELHI: The semi-decomposed body of a 23-year-old man was found with stab injuries in a forested area in south Delhi’s Ambedkar Nagar on Monday morning.

The man was missing since Saturday morning, police said on Tuesday. The body had been partly eaten by stray animals.

The man, identified by his single name Danish, was a labourer at a construction site in South Extension. He lived with his family in Sangam Vihar. Police said he was a drug addict and suspect he was killed by other addicts.

On Saturday morning, Danish left home for work but did not return. A missing complaint was not filed by his family members as he often used to stay with his friends at their homes, police said.

Romil Baaniya, deputy commissioner of police (south), said the police control room received a call around 10 am on Monday about a male body lying at an isolated place behind Batra Hospital.

“Some parts of the body had been eaten by stray animals. The body was sent to AIIMS mortuary,” said DCP Baaniya.

Since the body had stab wounds, a case of murder was registered. The investigating team established the identity of the deceased. During the probe, Baaniya said, it was learnt that Danish was addicted to smack. Police said he had reported to the workplace on Saturday and Sunday as well.

“Prima facie it appears Danish was consuming smack or ganja with other drug addicts at the isolated place and was killed following an argument. The exact motive can be ascertained when we nab the culprits,” the officer said. Danish’s mother had committed suicide about 10 years ago. His father married another woman. Soon he began consuming drugs.
