NEWDELHI: An 18-year-old student was allegedly stabbed and hit with a pistol when he took on three robbers outside t he Akshardham Metro station in east Delhi on Saturday night.

The victim alleged that he was with two women friends in a car when the crime took place at a crowded spot, where at least two PCR vans were deployed within metres. He received injuries to his head and a cut to his hand, but is out of danger.

Though a case of causing hurt, wrongful restraint and theft was registered at Mandawali police station, an investigator cast aspersions on the allegations.

“The alleged crime spot was crowded and there were policemen on duty nearby. We need to probe if it was a robbery or a fight between two groups,” said the investigator. Senior officers of the district who are authorised to speak to the media remained unavailable for a comment.

The victim, a Class 12 student, is a resident of East Vinod Nagar. “My two women friends and I had gone to the Metro station to receive a friend. Suddenly, a man got off a white i10 car and aggressively knocked on the driver’s side of the window where my friend was seated. He claimed to be a policeman,” said the man, requesting anonymity.

The man asked the woman behind the wheel to stop rolling down the window. “I got off the car to see what the issue was. I had barely stepped out that the person snatched my gold chain from my neck and sprinted towards the i10 car waiting for him,” the man alleged.

The victim chased him. “I was trying to take my gold chain when he pulled out a knife. He stabbed me in my hand. His associate then arrived to his help, pulled out a pistol and repeatedly struck me. I had to let go when blood filled my eyes,” said the man.

The suspects then hopped into the car waiting for them and sped away. “One of the bystanders had noted the car’s registration number. I got treatment for my injuries after which I approached the police,” the man said.

A police officer said that the car suspected to be used in the crime was tracked down, but the owner did not know about the crime. “It is possible that the car number was misread or a fake number plate was used. We are checking CCTV footage,” said the officer.
