GHAZIABAD: The wedding reception celebrations at a house in Bhowapur ended abruptly after the family received a call late Wednesday night informing about five of their family members dead and another five injured when their Wagonr car hit a truck on the GT Road under Badalpur police station area.

The grieving family members of the victims said that the last call they’d received informed them that the car had reached a small canal near Dadri. However, it collided with the truck minutes later.

The family members of four brothers — Manveer, Karamveer, Satveer and Jasveer — had come to Bhowapur village in Ghaziabad to attend the reception of their nephew, who got married a couple of days back. They were returning home to Badpura village in Greater Noida when the Wagonr hit a stationary truck on the GT Road and killed five, including three minors.

“My brother-in-law Manveer wanted to meet me at the reception and gave me a call around 8pm. He asked me to come early from work. I was in Gurgaon and told him that I was coming to Ghaziabad to meet him and other family members who had come for the reception. Everyone was happy, but the entire family went into grief around midnight when we received the call,” said Praveen Kumar, who is married to Manveer’s sister.

Karamveer, Manveer, Satveer and Jasbeer are four brothers who are engaged in farming and dairy business.

“By the time I reached home around 11pm, Manveer had left with the family. Manveer’s brother-in-law informed us about the accident,” Kumar said.
