EX-MES man held for theft in Delhi Cantt
NEW DELHI: A 54-year-old suspended employee of the military engineering services and his two associates were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly committing burglaries at the residences of senior army officials in Delhi Cantonment.
Bhisham Singh, deputy commissioner of police, crime, said five burglaries committed between December 2017 and March 15 have been solved with their arrest.
One LED TV, two cameras, 15 silver utensils, a gold wristwatch and an i10 car used in the crime were recovered from them, the DCP said.
The arrested men are Dharambir, a suspended fitter general mechanic of MES, Deepak alias Prasanjeet,30, and Dheeraj alias Pawan, 22.
“An employee identity card of MES Dharambir used to gain access in the cantonment areas has been seized from him,” DCP Singh said.
Singh said Dharambir allegedly carried out a reconnaissance to identify locked residences of army officers. He facilitated an easy entry of his associates in his car by producing his MES ID card at the sentry posts, police said.
“They committed burglaries in locked houses and made away with cash, valuables and other items,” he added.
After the recent burglaries, the Military Intelligence, after conducting preliminary investigation, approached the crime branch for a joint operation, DCP Singh said.
“The joint team identified the suspects and the three were arrested on Monday from Dwarka when they were going to dispose of the stolen articles,” the DCP said.
