T2 operationa­l from Sunday: DIAL says it is ready to help passengers

NEW DELHI: With Indigo and Spicejet airlines starting partial operations from Terminal 2 (T2) on Sunday, the Delhi Internatio­nal Airport Limited (DIAL) said it has made arrangemen­ts to assist flyers reach the correct terminals without inconvenie­nce.

DIAL officials said an extensive signage exercise has been conducted at Indira Gandhi Internatio­nal (IGI) Airport to help passengers with directions and locations of the terminals. Free shuttles have been introduced to-and-from T1 and T2 to assist flyers who reach the wrong terminal.

Officials added that extra manpower has been deployed to guide passengers who turn up at the incorrect terminal.

Indigo and Spicejet are partially moving from T1 to the newly revamped T2 with effect from 12.01 am on March 25, 2018, DIAL said.

With the partial shift of operations, the passenger area will increase from 25,917 sq m at T1 to a combined total at T1 and T2 to 62,010 sq m, officials said.

DIAL CEO I Prabhakara Rao said, “In view of the robust passenger growth and upcoming airport expansion works, Indigo and Spicejet are moving partly to Terminal 2 and we welcome both the airlines. This will enable us to start the expansion works at Terminal 1 that will be carried out over the next 3-4 years. We continuous­ly strive to achieve passenger convenienc­e and delight. We are confident that our extensive preparatio­ns will help the passengers as well as the entire IGIA community.”

Officials said that the Delhi Airport is actively disseminat­ing informatio­n on Twitter using #Shiftingto­t2.

Further, additional tabs on Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS) and directiona­l map have been incorporat­ed in the Delhi Airport’s website (www.newdelhiai­rport.in) to help passengers reach the correct terminal.

With around 63.5 million passengers flying through the Delhi airport in 2017, it has surpassed Changi, Incheon and Bangkok airports in terms of passenger growth.

Officials said Delhi airport is now the seventh busiest airport in Asia and among the top 20 busiest airports across the world.
