Drug trafficking racket busted, ₹4cr heroin found
NEW DELHI : Delhi Police Monday claimed to have busted an interstate drug trafficking racket with the arrest of a 30-year-old man. Police said they recovered one kilogramme heroin worth ₹4 crore in the international market. Deputy commissioner of police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Yadav said the alleged drug trafficker Riyaz Khan,30, was carrying a reward of ₹1 lakh for his arrest. The seized drug, police said, was recovered from Khan’s house in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.
Khan told police he was a Btech graduate and had also pursued his postgraduation. He reportedly said he had joined the drug trade in his village after failing to find a job six years ago.
DCP Yadav said Khan’s arrest came on the basis of the interrogation of three drug traffickers – Savej, Ashique Ali and Anwar alias Mama – who were arrested on January 10 with around four kilogrammes of heroin.
“In their interrogation, they said they had brought the drugs from a Bareilly-based supplier named Riyaz Khan. We were trying to trace him. On March 24, we received a tip-off that Khan was hiding at his brother’s house in Bareilly, UP,” said Yadav.
Police said that Khan was arrested from his brother’s house. Khan’s two cell phones, which he used for drug trafficking, was seized. Khan confessed that he started as a courier and smuggled drugs but later started his own network.
