SUV RUNS OVER BIHAR JOURNO

- PRASHANT RANJAN

ARA: A local journalist and his friend were killed when an SUV rammed into their bike in Bihar’s Bhojpur district on Sunday night.

Navin Singh alias Navin Nischal, 40, who worked for a Hindi daily published from Patna, and his friend Vijay Singh, 30, were hit by a speeding SUV near Nahsi village under Garhani police station limits.

Navin’s brother, Rajesh Kumar Singh has accused the husband and son of a former village head, Saheeda Parveen, of being behind the alleged murder.

Parveen’s husband, Harsu Miyan has been arrested while their son Dabloo is absconding, police said.

The SUV, which belonged to Harsu, was set on fire by an angry mob which demanded immediate arrest of Dabloo, and blocked the Ara-sasaram state highway at Garhani. disclosing the bribe given to the police by illegal miners. A few police officers were transferred after the sting was aired.

The Opposition, led by Congress leaders Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kamal Nath and Ajay Singh, demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident. “Mining mafia is operating with impunity and the government has shut its eyes,” Scindia tweeted.

Local journalists said police failed to provide security to Sharma, who had submitted a letter to Bhind SP Prashant Khare last year, stating that there was a threat to his life from a sub-divisional police officer and the mining mafia.
