THE GIRL, A STUDENT OF A SCHOOL LOCATED IN EAST DELHI, ALLEGEDLY TOOK THE EXTREME STEP AFTER SHE FAILED IN TWO SUBJECTS

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to hear a plea filed by the father of a 16-yearold schoolgirl seeking CBI investigation into her apparent suicide.

Advocate Sushil Tekriwal, counsel for the girl’s father, mentioned the matter before a bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra who assured the matter would be heard next week.

The Class 9 girl was found hanging at her Noida residence on March 20. The girl, a student of a school located in east Delhi, allegedly took the extreme step after she failed in two subjects — Science and Social Science.

The girl’s father, a kathak dancer, has accused the school of authorities of deliberately failing her in the subjects, forcing the girl to kill herself.

The father claimed the girl was sexually exploited, oppressed and harassed by certain teachers and officials from the school.

The child too, he said, was a kathak dancer and had performed at various festivals.

In his petition, the girl’s father accused the Uttar Pradesh Police of allegedly botching up the case and hushing up the investigation. He further demanded a security cover for his family.

The father’s lawyer Tekriwal said there was no coordination among the Delhi Police and the UP Police.

The plea stated “jurisdictional compulsion” as one of the reasons for asking a CBI probe in the matter.

The incident took place in UP, while the school where she studied is in Delhi.

The father has also alleged that his son, now an undergraduate student, also studied in the same school where “he was also bullied, tortured and humiliated by certain teachers for being good in performing arts and not being good in studies”. The son was forced to leave the school as a result of the ill-treatment he faced there.
