‘Maoist leader’ from Bihar nabbed in Noida with fake Aadhaar card

NOIDA: Noida Police officials late on Monday night arrested a 24-year-old suspected Maoist leader who had allegedly been on the run for more than 11 years. A pistol, live cartridges and a fake Aadhaar card were recovered from his possession, the police said.

Police officials said Sudheer Kumar was an area commander of a Maoist outfit in Muzaffarpu­r, Bihar, and had been living in Noida for the past year. Hailing from a village in Muzaffarpu­r, the 24-year-old was carrying a reward of ₹50,000 for his arrest and was wanted for at least five murders, the police said.

Police official said that as of now, they have not been able to ascertain why he came to Noida. “He comes here often and then returns to his village. We do not know the exact nature of his business in the city... We will have more informatio­n once he is interrogat­ed further,” said Sharma.

The Sspaddedth­atkumar had allegedly identified 11 other members of his gang. “We have informatio­n about 11 more members... We are also investigat­ing who had provided him with the fake Aadhaar card,” said Sharma.

Police officials added that this was his first arrest. “He confessed to multiple crimes during interrogat­ion. Till now, we have informatio­n about his involvemen­t in at least 15 cases. We are carrying out an investigat­ion,” he said.
