Cops scramble for leads as anger mounts
CBSE PAPER LEAK Central Delhi school teacher among 34 questioned, no arrests yet; retest dates not decided
NEW DELHI: A teacher from a reputed central Delhi school, who also works at a coaching centre, is among 34 persons who have so far been questioned in connection with the CBSE paper leaks. Police said the man, who teaches economics, has also authored a book on the subject for CBSE students. Along with him, police are questioning the teacher’s colleagues and students who took classes at the coaching centre in Rohini.
Another police team is questioning the tutor of a Rajendra Nagar-based coaching centre. The man was named by the CBSE in their complaint as one of the persons who should be probed. The tutor, known as ‘Bhaiya’, has denied his involvement. A Lajpat Nagar-based woman tutor is also being questioned.
“Our economics teacher was ill and left mid session. He was hired on contractual basis and his contract is over. We are cooperating with the authorities,” said the principal of the central Delhi school.
HT is withholding the names of the tutors and their institutes because police said their role is still being investigated.
Police said the 34 persons being questioned include college and school students, tutors and private individuals. Police have registered two FIRS related to the leak of Class 12 Economics and Class 10 Mathematics examination papers.
“It has been established that the papers of two subjects were available before the exams,” special commissioner of police (crime) RP Upadhayay said.
“The papers were exchanged among students and some tutors. We are trying to identify the point of origin of the leak, how it was transmitted and the beneficiaries,” he said. Upadhayay said police have sought details from CBSE about the process of setting papers, where it is stored and its distribution, including names of senior school and college teachers, who had prepared the papers. “The school students we questioned are those who received the papers. The college students are all in first year who either knew the school students or had forwarded the papers. So far we have received reports of leak only in Delhi ,” said Upadhayay.
According to the FIR, the CBSE had received a mail on March 23, informing them about the question paper leak two days before the Class 12 Economics exam. Delhi police registered the first FIR on March 27 while the second was registered the following day. The two cases have been registered under sections of cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy.
Two deputy commissioners of police and their respective teams are probing how the papers for each subject was leaked.
Delhi police commissioner Amulya Patnaik, who is monitoring the investigation, held a meeting with the investigating officers on Thursday. Police said so far they have not found evidence of any money changing hands.
Hindustan Times on Thursday spoke to a tutor, whose number was mentioned in the FIR filed by the CBSE as one who should be probed. Refusing to be identified, he said, “I am not involved in anything. I received a set of question papers over Whatsapp and created a group called Econvisionnaire. I asked other teachers to solve the questions. The next thing, I know, my number is on the FIR,” the tutor said.
Police are trying to trace the owner of the number through which the CBSE had received a complaint about the paper leak. “Every student claims that they had received a forwarded copy. The questions were handwritten. The handwriting also appears to be different in most leaked papers. The most common circulated hand-written copy had nine matching questions,” said a police officer. @smritiirani madam cbse conduct ‘re exam papers leak only Delhi the ‘re exam conduct only Delhi why all students suffer I am from Karnataka bellari what is my fault give me answer i am in un happy to our government I am a student of class 10 and i don’t want to give my exam again due to the mistake of some of the people .
