NEW DELHI: Five men were arrested and a 17-year-old boy was apprehended for their alleged involvement in the murder of an Ola cab driver, whose body was found in outer Delhi on March 23, police said.

Deputy commissioner of police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta said the body of the victim, Hari Narayan (35), was found in outer Delhi’s Alipur on March 23. He was an Ola cab driver.

Three of the suspects – Rahul (21), Naveen (25) and Hemant (19) – were nabbed in Narela on the intervening night of March 28 and March 29.

Three country-made pistols along with six cartridges were recovered from them, which they allegedly used to threaten the victim. The accused disclosed the names of their remaining associates– Amit (25) and Vishal (20)– who were arrested and one minor was apprehended.

“Rahul, Naveen, Hemant and Amit were friends and in need of employment and money. They made the plan to rob the car to fulfil their money requirement. On March 23, Naveen booked the cab from the mobile number of Rahul for Kashmere Gate. They cancelled the booking after boarding it. After travelling for about four kilometers and reaching an abandoned area behind Tikri village, they overpowered the driver, Hari Narayan, and strangulated him,” said Gupta.

Police said the 17-year-old boy helped the four accused in disposing of the car.

The accused had agreed to give the car to Vishal for a sum of ₹25,000. Vishal had allegedly planned to use the robbed car for transporting illicit liquor in Haryana. Vishal was arrested during investigation.

Police said that the cab and three country-made pistols with six live cartridges have been recovered from the possession of the accused. NEW DELHI: The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has approved a proposal to rent out spaces at 800 of its buildings to place mobile phone towers.

The buildings spread over six zones of the north corporation include community halls, community centres, senior citizen recreation centres, sports complexes, mahila haats, community dumpsters and zonal offices.

The project will fetch R 43.50 crore annually to the cashstrapped civic authority, which has been unable to launch any new project in last one year due to a financial crisis.

The proposal was approved during the standing committee meeting on Wednesday.

“Since we are unable to pay regular salaries of our employees, the amount collected can be used for this purpose. We finalised four companies for installing the towers,” said an official.

The mobile towers will be erected at the rooftops and other suitable places.
