PAPER LEAK Cops talk to CBSE’S controller of examination about people who had access to the paper till the time they reached exam centres

NEW DELHI: The special investigation team (SIT) of Delhi Police, probing the CBSE paper leak case, met the board’s controller of examination, KK Choudhary, on Friday. A senior officer confirmed that police have sought details from Choudhary about the process of setting the question paper and the designation of officials who have access to the paper sets before they are distributed to the examination centres.

Choudhary reportedly met the police team for about two hours on Friday, sources said.

The question papers of Class 10 mathematics and Class 12 economics papers were allegedly leaked, triggering a massive uproar among students, parents and academia. The Class 10 paper was conducted on Wednesday while the Class 12 economics paper was held on Monday.

The police have received details of at least 10 Whatsapp groups on which the question papers were shared. At least 60 people, which include teachers, tutors, and students have been questioned in the case.

“It is difficult to give a number but it appears that the question papers were seen on Whatsapp Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi CM by hundreds of persons, or maybe thousands. Most of the persons, we have questioned, so far, claim they received the images of a handwritten paper with questions on Whatsapp. We are trying to trace its source,” said a police officer privy to investigations .

The paper leak, which has affected around 2.2 million CBSE Class 10 and 12 students across India and in select overseas locations, is being probed by a special investigative team of crime branch officers. The team is headed by two officers of the rank of police deputy commissioner.

Police said they are in regular contact with CBSE who are sharing with police every bit of information that they are getting. Confirming this, CBSE chairperson Anita Karwal said, “We have been proactively helping police and sending every bit of information that we have. We have been receiving mails from students, who claim to have received the question paper.”

The CBSE has also conducted an internal inquiry and shared its findings with the police. A senior CBSE official said that during the inquiry, they have found that there are ‘many vulnerable points from the time the papers are dispatched from CBSE to the different examination centres.”

there have been concerns regarding leaks of several other exam papers as well. Not only does it affect the future of 26 lakh students, but puts a question mark on CBSE assessment system.... PM wrote Exam Warriors, a book to teach students stress relief during exams. Next up: Exam Warriors 2, a book to teach students stress relief, once their lives are destroyed due to leaked exam papers. I appeal to parents of CBSE students in Maharashtra and rest of the country, that under no circumstances should you permit your children to sit for the reexaminations.
