NEW DELHI: The Delhi government’s schools of excellence will begin the admission process for Class 9 with the entrance test forms coming out on Monday.

The five co-educational and English-medium schools will have two sections of Class 9 with 40 students in each class.

The application process will end on April 9 and the entrance test will be held on April 13.

The test results will be declared on April 19.

Currently, an entrance for admission in Class 9 is conducted only in 20 Pratibha Vikas Vidalayas out of the over 1,100 government schools.

There are three categories of government-run schools in the city — Rajkiya Vidalaya, which has classes from 6th onwards, Pratibha Vikas Vidalaya which has classes from 6th onward and admission are entrance test based and Sarvodaya Vidalayas in which classes start from nursery.

A circular issued by the directorate of education (DOE) said the applicants should apply for only one of the schools and they cannot change the choice of school.

“The entrance test will consist of objective type questions to test the numerical and mental ability, general knowledge and language comprehension, and descriptive type questions to test the writing skills in English and Hindi,” the directorate of education circular said.

The schools, which will run in single shifts, are located in Rohini, Khichdipur, Kalkaji, Madanpur Khadar and Dwarka.

The entrance test will be conducted at the same school where an applicant wishes to take admission.

A registration fee of ₹50 will be charged at the time of submission of the form.

Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia had in December last year announced that five English medium government schools will be started in April 2018 as part of the Delhi government’s ‘School of Excellence’ scheme.

Admissions to nursery, KG and Class 1 in these schools is underway. The admissions were done by draw of lots.

Classes will begin on April 2.
