More rumours of paper leaks worry students
NEWDELHI: A group of students on Saturday alleged that they had received copies of their Class 12 Hindi elective paper, the exam for which is scheduled for April 2. Later in the day, a copy of Class 12 Political Science paper too surfaced in a Youtube video, almost a week before the subject’s scheduled exam on April 6.
Both the ‘leaked’ papers, however, were later found to be that of the previous years.
Rumours of CBSE paper leaks have clouded this year’s Class 10 and Class 12 CBSE Board examination, leading to thousands of students falling prey to fake leaked papers that are being circulated on social media.
Easy access to technology, which allows faster dissemination of information, a stressed student community already on tenterhooks, and actual papers being leaks, have fostered a prime ground for rumours being circulated, experts believed.
On Saturday, a student, who was protesting outside the CBSE offices in Preet Vihar and wished to remain unidentified, said that he had received images of a handwritten Biology paper a night before the exam, a handwritten Mathematics paper on the day of the exam, and a printed Chemistry paper an hour before the exam. “All papers other than English have been leaked. Even Hindi elective, which is supposed to happen on April 2, has been leaked... So re-exams should be held for either all the subjects or none,” he said.
The “leaked” Hindi (elective) paper, shared with HT, was a compartment exam paper of 2017, according to the CBSE chairperson. “There is a group of students protesting outside who claim to have a leaked copy of the Hindi paper. They are probably circulating it too. We checked their claim. This paper is of the 2017 compartment exam,” said CBSE chairperson Anita Karwal over text messages.
CBSE also released a statement to this effect, regarding the Hindi (elective) paper and an alleged “leaked” Political Science paper that found its way on to Youtube.
“Students are hereby alerted not to believe any such rumours. It is reiterated that the question papers circulating on social media are either of earlier years or fake. Hence, it is requested that students not circulate such news about these fake papers so that the other stakeholders are not misled,” the statement said.
Special commissioner of police (crime), RP Upadhyay, also confirmed that the police at present were not investigating any other subject’s paper leak, apart from the Class 12 Economics, and Class 10 mathematics paper.
“We have not received any complaints regarding any other paper, and we are not investigating any other subject paper,” he said.
