NEWDELHI: The Delhi government has started work on small sewage treatment plants (STP) to be set up in colonies in outer Delhi.

According to Delhi Jal Board vice-chairman and Sangam Vihar MLA Dinesh Mohaniya, the tendering process had started for many of these mini STPS and these plants will help these water-starved areas.

The plants will be set up in Burari, Chhatarpur, Kirari, Narela, Jindpur, Palla, Bawana, Kanjhwala, Badarpur, Mundka and Najafgarh.

“For the one in Burari, the tendering has been done while the detailed project reports are being prepared for the STPS at Chhatarpur, Badarpur and Narela. We are trying to accommodate localities that might not be part of the sewage master plan. These decentralised STPS would not only solve the crisis faced due to sewage, but will also produce huge amounts of recycled water,” Mohaniya said.

According to DJB officials, a small sewage treatment plant will be installed in one colony and the treated water will be used by residents for toilets, horticulture in area and water bodies.

As part of the 2018-19 budget, these projects have been given individual timelines to make sure that they don’t end up being just another budgetary promise.

In Burari area, the STP with 20 MLD capacity will be commissioned by December 2019. In Chattarpur, an STP with 22MLD capacity will be ready by March 31, 2020.

In Kirari, a 93MLD STP and in Narela, Jindpur and Palla, plants of 115 MLD each will be ready by March 31, 2020.

The same deadline has been set for STPS in Badarpur, Najafgarh, Kanjhawala and Mundka. Identification of land for all these plants will be completed by June 31, 2018, and tendering process for these will be completed by November 30, 2018.
