NEWDELHI: The formation of governing bodies in the Delhi government-funded colleges continue to be stalled even though the executive council (EC) had given ‘in-principle approval’ to names of experts sent by the Delhi government.

“Our governing body has not been formed yet. The university has not sent the list of names, even t hough t he EC had approved the names. We have been told by the college branch not to hold elections for the office-bearers of the GB, until they tell us to do so,” said a principal of a DU college that receives 5% of its funds from Delhi University.

An emergent executive council meeting was convened on March 8, where an ‘in principle’ approval had been given to names of experts sent by the Delhi government for constituting governing bodies (GB) in 28 colleges funded by it, ending an over a year-long tussle between the university and the state government.

“They are doing politics over this. They don’t want appointments to be done, as they have taken money for these. So they don’t want the governing bodies to be formed,” said Manish Sisodia, education minister of Delhi.

An executive council member, Rajesh Jha, said that he has written to the V-C and Sisodia in the matter.

“In all 28 colleges, they have been told by the college branch not to hold the elections for the office bearers of the GB... Political interference cannot be allowed to rule. The delay is adversely affecting affecting the smooth functioning and infrastructure development of the colleges,” Jha said.

The V-C, registrar, and dean of colleges were unavailable to comment.
