NEW DELHI: A dog allegedly attacked and injured two people in Uttam Nagar on March 28. However, police said that they have not received any complaint in the matter so far.

Deputy commissioner of police (Dwarka) Shibesh Singh said, “We have no information about the alleged incident.”

A purported footage of the incident recorded on a CCTV in the area has emerged, in which the dog, a Pit Bull Terrier, is seen running after a group of people on a street and pulling down a boy.

A woman intervenes and tries to separate them. Meanwhile, another woman and two men arrive at the spot carrying sticks and a plastic chair, and try to push back the dog.

The dog, in turn, leaves the boy and begins chasing the man with the chair.

After few seconds, the dog is spotted in the footage again. This time, it is chasing a woman, who moves behind a parked car to save herself.

The dog leaves her midway and then goes after another person.

Geeta Sheshmani of Friendicoes, an animal rights NGO, said, “I have not seen the video. But whatever it shows is the end product. We cannot see what the dog went through in the past. In general, dogs can become aggressive due to many reasons. It could be due to ill-treatment, bad training, hunger, torture or separation for a long time from owners.”

Sheshmani added that dogs are like infants. They are not born ferocious but are the product of owners who mishandle them, do not socialise them, train them to attack and be watch dogs.

“There is a great deal of roughness and cruelty involved in making a dog ‘aggressive’,” she said.
