Debating skillbased hiring at Shine conclave

MUMBAI: Shine.com, the most innovative and the second largest online job portal in India successful­ly concluded another chapter of HR Conclave in Mumbai recently. The conclave is a part of a series of events that is conducted by Shine.com, across the year, spanning the cities of Mumbai, Gurgaon, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai.

The Mumbai conclave witnessed the panel discuss emerging trends that impact the hiring and recruitmen­t landscape in India - such as the Impact of Artificial Intelligen­ce, Data Analytics and other similar emerging skills.

The panelists of the Mumbai conclave included industry leaders like Madhavi Lall, Head of HR, Deutsche bank, Nirav Jagad, CHRO of Nykaa, Alok Sheopurkar, Executive Vice President & Head HR of HDFC Asset Management Co. Ltd and Unmesh Pawar, Global Managing Director Human Resources of Accenture.

The panel shared its valuable insights on The Emergence of Skill Based Hiring in the industry. The discussion was moderated by Avijit Bhattachar­ya, CHRO of Tata Capital.

The insightful panel discussion set minds thinking about the trends in hiring and the challenges and opportunit­ies that the employees and HR leaders may come across in the future.

The topics discussed included the role of skill-based hiring in India, initiative­s that companies can take to skill their employees, key skills that will be in demand in the coming years and the factors that will determine the short listing of candidates in future.

Speaking at the event, Madhavi Lall, Head, HR, Deutche Bank said, “The hiring industry is witnessing pragmatic changes basis the new- age job requiremen­ts. Convention­ally, recruiters are not used to hire candidates based on skillsets. So, there is a pushback when they are asked to hire based on skills and not resume. This is one of the biggest challenges that we face in HR today. It is essential for the HR community to develop more sustainabl­e procedure and address the significan­ce of skillbased hiring. There should be a balance between skill-based and resume-based hiring to maintain the equilibriu­m in the long run.”

Unmesh Pawar, Global Man- aging Director Human Resources, Accenture, said “If organisati­ons are real about reskilling talent to build the workforce of the future chances are they will succeed in creating an edge over competitio­n in the market.”

Alok Sheopurkar, Executive VP & Head HR, HDFC Asset Management company added, “If you cannot engage your client for more than three minutes, the party is over because that’s the maximum time to take investment decisions and for which re-skilling is very important.”

The conclave brings together the HR profession­als from across industries and plays a very essential role in offering industry-specific insights on the different HR and Recruitmen­t trends of the industry.
