HC questions GFI selection for CWG, asks to process gymnasts’ licence

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court asked the Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI) to process the applicatio­ns for licence of two gymnasts to enable them to participat­e in the Commonweal­th Games in Australia, and questioned GFI how gymnasts who scored lower were selected. The court was hearing a petition filed by gymnasts Mohd Bobby and Gaurav Kumar, claiming that despite scoring higher in the selection trials, they have not been selected for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonweal­th Games. Instead of them, Yogeshwar Singh, who ranked sixth, and Rakesh Patra, who ranked 25th, have been selected.

POLICE AQUATIC & CROSS COUNTRY MEET

NEW DELHI: The Border Security Force (BSF) has organised a fiveday 66th All India Police Aquatic and Cross Country Championsh­ip at the Chhawla Camp that started Monday. The event will see 595 participan­ts from 27 teams including Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Indo-tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Border Security Force (BSF), Assam Rifles, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the National Security Guard (NSG). Minister of state for home affairs, Kiren Rijiju attended the opening ceremony.

KANCHENJUN­GA EXPEDITION STARTS

NEW DELHI: Union minister of petroleum & natural gas and skill developmen­t & entreprene­urship Dharmendra Pradhan flagged off the ONGC Mt Kanchenjun­ga Expedition here on Monday. A 15-member team, comprising 12 climbing and 3 base camp members including a doctor, is part of the expedition.
