Govt likely to table ‘outcome report’

NEW DELHI: The ongoing fight between Delhi’s Aam Aadmi Party government and the Lieutenant Governor of the city-state is likely to ratchet up a notch on Wednesday, with government officials saying the so-called outcome report to be tabled by deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday in the Delhi assembly will highlight the ways in which the L-G has allegedly obstructed various government projects.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, claimed the report would highlight the need to ensure the accountability of L-G Anil Baijal.

Baijal’s office did not respond to calls and messages seeking comment. The Delhi government and the L-G have been at odds over several issues. Last Wednes- day, the Delhi assembly passed a resolution for presenting a “outcome report” .

HT learns that, among other things, the report claims that Baijal chose to send the file pertaining to the ‘Higher Education Loan Guarantee Scheme’ back for re-examination after some issues were raised by the law department, leading to an “avoidable delay of 402 days” in the approval of the policy. He should have approved it on August 30, 2016, when the file was first sent to him, as he had the legal authority to overcome the issues raised by the law department, the officials said. HT couldn’t independently verify this claim. The AAP government has compiled data, which is likely to be the part of the “outcome report”, showing that over 30 key government projects in different departments were “delayed, stalled or bottlenecked”, the officials said.
