NEWDELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday accused the office of the Lieutenant-governor of Delhi, Anil Baijal, of impropriety in adjudicating transfers of officials. The charge was made in the Delhi assembly during a discussion on the outcome report on the L-G’S office.

Leading the accusations, Greater Kailash MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj, who is also the AAP spokesperson, alleged that officers had to give “certain lakh or crore rupees” if they want a posting in a particular department. The services department of the Delhi government is responsible for transfers of officials and comes directly under the L-G’S office.

“This is why they are holding on to the reins of the services department,” he said.

The L-G’S office, which comes under the Union home ministry, did not respond to text messages and calls seeking a comment on the issue.

“We never faced corruption allegations for transfer and posting of officers during the one-year period when services department was with us. But today, there are rates in the L-G office,” Bhardwaj alleged, accusing the Centre of not taking any action against corrupt officials and protecting those against whom where were charges of corruption.

During the discussions, the AAP MLA from Chandni Chowk Alka Lamba also criticised the L-G for delaying key projects of the government including the mohalla clinics and implementing the revised minimum wages.

According to the assembly rules, anything said by the legislators inside the House is immune from legal action.

KAPIL MISHRA MARSHALLED OUT

Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel on Thursday marshaled out rebel AAP MLA Kapil Mishra after he approached the Speaker’s chair and tore a copy of the House’s business list, demanding removal of a scheduled discussion on “alleged attempt to incite communal disturbance on pretext of Ramnavami procession”.

An MLA from Karawal Nagar, Mishra questioned the need for a discussion on the issue when there is no incident of “communal disturbance” in Delhi. However, the ruling AAP legislators insisted on having a discussion on it.

Later, all four BJP MLAS, including leader of the Opposition Vijender Gupta, Jagdish Pradhan, Manjinder Singh Sirsa and OP Sharma, staged a walk out, in support of the former AAP minister.
