7-yr-old boy killed by neighbour for resisting sexual assault bid

NEW DELHI : A seven-year-old boy was kidnapped and strangled, allegedly by his neighbour, for resisting a sexual assault attempt in south Delhi’s Harkesh Nagar near Okhla on Monday, police said.
The neighbour allegedly dumped the child’s body in a drain at Okhla Phase-3.
The 21-year-old neighbour, Sandeep Singh, arrested on Wednesday night from his brother-in-law’s house in Noida and he led the police to drain from where the child’s decomposed body was recovered on Thursday.
The boy’s family said the child was brutally assaulted.
“His eyes were missing and tongue cut off when we found his
body,” said his aunt.
More than 50 persons, including family members and relatives, blocked traffic movement on Mathura Road, demanding strict action against the man. They said more than one person was involved in the crime.
Chinmoy Biswal, deputy com- missioner of police (southeast), said, “The body was decomposed and it appears the eyes too were putrefied. The body was sent to a government hospital for autopsy,” said Biswal, only Singh was involved in the murder.
The boy lived with his parents and sister in Harkesh Nagar. His father is a labourer and the mother a domestic help.
On Monday, the child was playing in the neighbourhood when his parents left for work.they returned home in the evening but could not find him. They filed a missing complaint in Okhla and a kidnapping case was registered the same day, Biswal said.
Investigators learnt the boy was last seen with his neighbour Sandeep Singh. “We tracked him to his relative’s home in Noida. We arrested him. He led us to the drain where he had dumped the child’s body,” he said.
Singh allegedly lured the boy to an isolated place near the drain promising a chocolate. He allegedly tried to sodomise the boy. “When he began screaming, Singh panicked and strangled the child,” said Biswal.
