Journalist shot at in Ghaziabad, family suspects old rivalry
GHAZIABAD: A Ghaziabad-based television journalist was allegedly shot at and injured outside his house on Sunday evening while he was taking a walk in Razapur locality under Kavi Nagar police station area. The police said that the journalist’s family had told them that they suspected the involvement of some of his old rivals behind the incident.
According to police, Anuj Chaudhary, 38, was taking a walk with 3-4 men when some men approached them on bikes and a car and opened fire. Two people, including Chaudhary, were injured in the incident which took place around 6.30pm.
“Chaudhary’s family has told us that they have an old standing rivalry with a criminal who is presently lodged in jail. They suspect the role of the criminal’s family members or their accomplices behind the incident. We have leads on several suspects and will arrest them soon,” said Vaibhav Krishna, senior superintendent of police, Ghaziabad.
“Chaudhary’s brother had earlier been murdered after a rivalry. There was a police bodyguard provided to Chaudhary. On Sunday, the bodyguard was not off day but the family had asked him not to come in,” SSP Krishna said.
Sources said that Chaudhary was rushed to Yashoda Hospital for treatment where he was operated upon. He sustained two bullets to his arm and one in his abdomen area.
Chaudhary on Saturday had attended the board meeting at municipal corporation headquarters as a representative of his wife Nisha. Nisha had become a councilor in the recent local body elections on a Bahujan Samaj Party ticket.
